Well…our first full day in Bali! I find the best way to get a feel for a place is to have a walk round. (We averaged 6 miles a day in Ho Chi Minh City)! We wandered off looking for a few basic provisions to keep us going…there are numerous small outlets selling water, canned drinks, crisps etc. others selling fruit and veg and eventually found a shop that sold coffee, yoghurt, juice and other small treats to keep body and soul together.
The roads are really narrow and busy with cars and scooters. The rules of the road seem to be more orthodox than in Saigon and the pace is a lot less frenetic. As we walked we were offered a taxi at every turn or a scooter to rent. I had my first experience as a passenger on a scooter last night. I stayed on! We stopped for a coffee in a rustic cafe to watch the people go by and have a rest. Noted a wide variety of restaurants serving vegetarian and vegan food so I’ll look forward to a varied diet while I’m here. Paul is very interested in the Indian breakfast offered by one establishment!

There are many craft shops, yoga centres, healing therapies and spa centres. Also some thrift shops and many local artists working along the way.
Very idle this afternoon reading by the pool. Its beautiful here with the wildlife (squirrels, lizards, butterflies, doves) bobbing about and the sound of cicadas (or something similar) and frogs in the evening and the smell of incense in the air.
Another splendid dinner out up the road …
